With a fourth person injured in firing by security forces succumbing to injuries on Wednesday,Kashmir Valley was on the boil again and the Army staged a flag march in curfew-bound Baramulla after the CRPF was withdrawn.
A case of murder has been registered against CRPF personnel involved in firing on protesters at Khanpora last evening that left a youth dead.
Army has been called in to assist police in maintaining law and order, an official spokesman. Indefinite curfew was clamped in Baramulla and Sopore towns on June 29 following the killing of two persons in police firing on protesters demanding action against policemen who allegedly misbehaved with a woman.
Fresh protests erupted when the body of Amir Rashid wounded in the June 29 firing,he succumbed to injuries today reached his home town. Hundreds defied curfew to attend his funeral. Police fired teargas shells and used batons when a group of mourners took to stone-pelting,officials said.
An Army ambulance was torched by a mob at Palhalan on the Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway and police used force to scatter stone-pelting protesters at Maisuma in the heart of Srinagar where pitched battles continued for several hours.
A government spokesman said a case of murder had been registered against the CRPF personnel who had allegedly opened fire at Khanpora,killing a youth identified as Fayaz Ahmad Gojri. CRPF authorities have been asked to hand over the personnel to Baramulla police.
