Delhi has another new theatre group, this one started by three third-year students from Shri Ram College of Commerce. Turntable Productions was born over a few conversations that Prateek Handa,Shoury Gupta and Medha Bankhwal had during their college theatre fest last January. They make their debut with Footnotes,an adaptation of One Million Tiny Plays about Britain by Craig Taylor,at Alliance Francaise on July 21 and 22.
The 1.30-hour-long production comprises 30 short plays. These plays, some only 30-seconds-long,revolve around incidents from everyday life which border on the mundane and things we never really pay attention to. One story is about a newspaperwallah, another about the tea cups used for the everyday morning beverage, and a third about haggling with autorickshaw drivers. These are the footnotes of life, says Bankhwal.
The stage persons are up-and-coming names in Delhis theatre circuit and have also participated in the Old World Theatre Festival and Short+Sweet theatre festival. There are eight actors who play at least three characters each while performing around 30 plays in less than 90 minutes. Weve been practising for a month, and its been one crazy journey so far, says Bankhwal.
