She expressed surprise at the Centres interpretation of the verdict as a justification of its position on not adopting the competitive bidding route to allot natural resources.

At its two-day meet in Surajkund earlier this week,party president Nitin Gadkari got Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley to explain the Supreme Courts order to party members to counter the governments attempt to project it as a victory against the BJPs demand for cancellation of coal block allocations.

Jaitley had said that although the court did not prescribe any method for the disposal of natural resources,it differentiated between allocation of natural resources for commerical exploitation and allocation for social or welfare purposes. It may be inferred that in the case of coal block allocations,where private operators were allocated blocks for commercial exploitation purposes,the principle of revenue maximisation was lost as competitive bidding was not adopted as the method for allocation, he said.
