The Suggestion to the Congress to dump the DMK was a word of advice and not an alliance proposal, said AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa, reacting to the Congresss rebuttal to her feelers.
Maintaining that she was cautioning Congress,as an old friend, against getting stuck in the quicksand of public ire,she said on Thursday,I did not invite the Congress to come over to us. People are very angry at the DMK Government over a host of issues like price rise, power shortage, unemployment and deteriorating law and order situation in Tamil Nadu. I only advised them not to get stuck in the quicksand… the Congress will realise it after the elections.
The past relationship that Jaya cited while offering her advice was, however, soon lost, when the former Chief Minister charged the Congress of being hand-in-glove with the DMK in ruining the country.
The people of Tamil Nadu were surprised when AICC in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the Congress and the DMK shared common view on many subjects, she said, adding that both perhaps shared a common interest to plunder the country. That is why they cannot leave each other, she said.
Jayas suggestion to Congress was being interpreted as efforts to bring the latter out of the DMK-led front.
