Hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Sunday rejected Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullahs offer of a helicopter ride to ascertain the status of repairs on the track to the Amarnath shrine, terming it political trickery aimed at misleading the people of Kashmir.
We have given solid evidence where in it has been shown that how construction material is being dumped there. There has been no response to that, Geelani said. A team sent by the Hurriyat recently surveyed the area.
A Hurriyat spokesman, while rejecting the offer, said the government should only lift restrictions on Geelanis movement. He (Geelani) will make his own arrangements to visit the area.
On Thursday, the Hurriyat leader had threatened to launch an agitation after Eid-ul Zuha against the alleged government plans to construct permanent facilities and improve infrastructure around the Amarnath shrine.
On Saturday, the Chief Minister had said: We have two choppers, let him (Geelani) choose a day and go wherever he wants around the Amarnath shrine. Then let him prove that a single meter of road length has been made or any step has been taken that is harmful to environment.
