Hours after the much-awaited re-opening,the tables at the eatery were all full

Over three years after the blast which killed 17 people on February 13,2010,the German Bakery here re-opened on Saturday. While no souvenirs of the blast have been retained, the entrance is now guarded by a metal detector. Besides 16 CCTV cameras which have been placed at strategic positions, eight private security guards have been hired.

Hours after the much-awaited re-opening,the tables at the eatery were all full.

There was an attempt to re-open the German Bakery on February 13 this year, the third anniversary of the blast, but the Pune Municipal Corporation asked the management to submit the structural audit report. We have submitted the report and are now formally open, said Vijay Shewale, the new owner of the German Bakery.

We have entered into a 25-year lease agreement with the owners of the bakery. The delay has been due to the internal, family problems of the original owners, but everything is now settled, he said.

The new logo,an owl, holds some significance too. It means that the night is over and we are waiting for dawn to arrive with our eyes open. It will all be good now, said Shewale.
