With farmers protesting that their abadi or populated land has been acquired by the UP government, the Greater Noida Authority has decided to go for back-lease that will benefit around 5,000 farmers in Gautam Budh Nagar district.

Back-lease is a process wherein the land acquired and transferred in governments name is returned to villagers who claim that their abadi land has been acquired. The farmers will take compensation and deposit it back to the Authority. The land will then be transferred back to the farmer.

For instance,if the government has acquired eight bighas and the farmer claims that four bighas is abadi area, the government will return those four bighas. For the rest, the farmer will get six per cent of four bigha land as per the new land acquisition policy, said an official of the Greater Noida Authority.
