Insurance company asked to pay Rs 6,44,000 compensation

Bhagat Singh,a resident of Bhiwani,had died when a tractor in which he was travelling overturned on Bhiwani-Jind road.

Haryana Labour department today ordered New India Assurance company to pay a sum of Rs 6,44,000 compensation to an eight-year-old girl who lost her father in a road accident.

Bhagat Singh,a resident of Talu village in Bhiwani district,had died when a tractor in which he was travelling overturned on Bhiwani-Jind road near Dhanana village in December 2006,officials said.

The deceased was a driver of farmer Zile Singh,the tractor owner,and he was also accompanying him at the time of the accident.

Bhagat was living separate from his wife Kanta and so his three-year-old daughter Sonika was authorised to get the compensation from the insurance company.

A case was filed,on behalf of Sonika,against the tractor owner and insurance company under Employee Compensation Act,the officials said.

The case continued for five years and after hearing,the court of Commissioner Hawa Singh Yadav asked the insurance company to pay Rs 4,30,320 as compensation and Rs 2,41,992 as interest within two months to Sonika.
