Jagan case: Minister named in chargesheet

Geeta has been named as accused No. 8 in the chargesheet filed against Lepakshi Knowledge Hub.

The CBI Tuesday named Andhra Minister for Major Industries Geeta Reddy in a chargesheet filed in the special court in connection with the alleged illegal assets case against Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Geeta,who was Tourism Minister in the Cabinet of former CM the late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy,has been named as accused No. 8 in the chargesheet filed against Lepakshi Knowledge Hub. Former R&B Minister Dharmana Prasad Rao,who recently resigned,was also named in the chargesheet.

The YSR government had in February 2009 allotted 8,840 acres of land to Lepakshi Knowledge Hub Private Limited. The promoters of the hub,Indu Tech Project,had mortgaged the land and taken a loan of Rs 400 crore which was used for purposes other than building the hub.s

Geeta allegedly promoted the Lepakshi Hub as a tourist destination while Rao,who was then Revenue Minister,allegedly circumvented laws to allot land at throwaway prices. The promoters allegedly invested in Jagan’s businesses in lieu of the land allotted to them.

Geeta was questioned by the CBI on August 28 while Rao had been questioned several times earlier.
