Dr Chaitanya Reddy, the husband of Petroleum Minister S Jaipal Reddys niece Dr Kiran Reddy, was on Wednesday arrested in connection with his wifes murder.
Quoting the post-mortem report,Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Stephen Ravindra said Chaitanya smothered Kiran to death using a pillow in a fit of rage after they had an altercation last Friday night.
The couple had an altercation during a party thrown by Kirans brother. Chaitanya was in an inebriated condition and when Kiran tried to stop him from consuming more liquor,he picked up a fight. Later, while driving home when Kiran chided him for insulting her in public,it resulted in a heated argument between the two. After reaching home,Kiran said she wanted to sleep in a separate room, leading to further argument between the two. At this point,Chaitanya pushed Kiran who fell on the floor and hurt her head. He then used a soft pillow to smother her, the DCP said. After this,Chaitanya went to the bedroom and went off to sleep.
Next morning,he erased evidence and traces of struggle that Kiran may have put up in the night, and called an ambulance. She was taken to Apollo Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival, he said. We collected all the evidence against Chaitanya and after receiving the post-mortem report on Wednesday,he was arrested.
The 26-year-old dermatalogist, was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Saturday morning. The couple had attended a cocktail party on Friday night at her brother Sunil Reddys home.
When the police questioned her husband,he maintained that after they reached home she slept in a different room and he found her unconscious in the morning.
Police suspected foul play as Kirans body had turned blue a sign of asphyxiation.
Kirans mother Bharati Reddy is the elder sister of Jaipal Reddy. Kiran and Chaitanya got married five years ago and have a three-year-old daughter.
The Jubilee Hills police had initially registered a case of suspicious death but changed it to murder after Kirans father complained that he suspected Chaitanyas involvement in the death of his daughter.
