The Opposition alliance, headed by the AIADMK,formally launched its campaign for the Lok Sabha elections on Wednesday, assuring to put an end to the ongoing war in Sri Lanka. The alliance leaders unleashed a scathing attack on DMK president and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for “betraying” the Tamils on the Lankan issue.

“After six years of rule by the NDA and another five years by the UPA,this is your chance to decide the destiny of the country. If we win all the 40 seats, the people of TN will decide who will be the next PM,” said Jayalalithaa in the presence of alliance leaders Prakash Karat of the CPI(M),A B Bardhan of the CPI,S Ramadoss of the PMK and Vaiko of the MDMK. “Strengthen my hands to save the lives of innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka,” she added.

“India has been supporting the Lankan Government’s war again the Tamils there. Karunanidhi has not done anything except for dramas like sending telegrams and letters to the PM,and holding fasts. He is only interested in the welfare of his own family,” she said.

Lankan issue dominated the speeches made by all the leaders. Apart from pro-Tamil leaders like Vaiko and Ramadoss,Karat and Bardhan also took on their erstwhile partners on the issue.
