Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley will fly down to Bangalore on Friday to try and defuse the ongoing crisis in the party in the wake of the revolt led by by former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.

Jaitley, who has emerged as the key trouble-shooter in the BJP,spoke to Yeddyurappa earlier this week following which the latter gave up his threat to quit the party on May 14.

Dharmendra Pradhan, incharge of BJP affairs in Karnataka, will be accompanying Jaitley.

The two leaders will be holding discussions with various factions over the next two days, although sources in the BJP hinted that it was unlikely that the party’s central leadership would yield to Yeddyurappa’s demand for a change of leadership in the state.

Though the BJP has stuck to its stand that Yeddyurappa will have to wait until he is cleared of the charges against him with regard to illegal mining cases,it has not taken kindly to his repeated attempts to arm-twist the central leadership and create embarrassing situations every time.

Jaitley, sources said, however, would give a patient hearing to Yeddyurappa and his supporters and possibly work on options to concede to some of his demands, including convening a meeting of the legislature party.

Yeddyurappa, who claims that he has in his possession the resignation letters of nine ministers and 53 MLAs of the BJP,had said he would take a call on his future plans “at an appropriate time”.
