The winter session of the Karnataka Assembly deadlocked since it began on January 6,over the Oppositions demand for a CBI probe into land deals involving Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa was brought to an abrupt end on Thursday after the Opposition refused to relent and stayed away from conciliatory meetings.
Speaker K G Bopaiah adjourned the House sine die, ending the session that was scheduled to last for 20 days. Even as the Opposition boycotted the House, the ruling BJP passed a few Bills.
Like in the past four days, the Assembly opened on Thursday to demands from the Congress and the JDS for an immediate discussion on the land deals of the Chief Minister and his family. When the proposal was turned down by the Speaker, the Opposition staged a walkout and held a protest outside the House.
The Speaker said he was deeply hurt by the happenings in the House over the last few days. For the first time in the history of the legislature, they boycotted the Governors address. They hurt me immensely, he said.
Earlier in the day,the Assembly took on record a report tabled by a House committee that inquired into the unruly behaviour of Opposition legislators in the Assembly on October 11 last year during a no-trust vote against the Yeddyurappa government. The committee, has recommended the suspension 15 Congress and JDS legislators.
