Kalki Koechlin, who plays a fiery student-cum- political activist in Shanghai, recalls shooting for a scene that left her emotionally drained. It was a sequence in which she had to batter a man with a kitchen utensil. Dibakar Banerjee wanted me to hold the utensil and swing it the way a player swings his golf stick and hits the ball hard. He asked me to pretend the vessel was a golf stick and the guy the ball! I was a bit concerned about the man but he told me not to worry about him and just use all my strength to hit him. To get the perfect moves I practiced with the stick throughout the night. By morning my back was aching,so I could imagine what the guy I was beating was going through, smiled Kalki.
