The Maharashtra government on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that the capture of Ajmal Kasab became the turning point to unravel the plot behind the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. This statement from the state government was meant to counter the earlier argument by amicus curiae Raju Ramachandran that Kasab was only an instrument with no role to play in the actual conspiracy hatched in Pakistan.

“Had Kasab not been caught alive,it would not have been possible to know that outsiders were involved,” advocate Gopal Subramaniam emphasised.

He said that among the 10 terrorists involved in the attack,Kasab made the first kill when he “beheaded the navigator of the Indian boat,Kuber, which was used by him and his accomplices to reach Budhawar Park in Mumbai”. The information was gleaned from Kasab in his interrogation.
