The cyber cell of Kerala police on Saturday arrested Crime news magazine chief editor T P Nandakumar on charges of publishing defamatory report about an NRI businessman.

Chief Editor Nandakumar had hit headlines after he filed a PIL in the SNC Lavalin case,in which CPM politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan is an accused.

Cyber cell head G Sukumara Pillai said Alexander Kaduthuruthi,an NRI from Kottayam,had complained that the online edition of the Crime had carried an article “tarnishing his image”.

Earlier,when the article was published in the print edition of the magazine,Alexander had filed a defamation suit in the court after which Nandakumar had given an undertaking that he would not publish such articles against the petitioner.

However,recently,the defamatory article was carried in the online edition of the magazine,forcing Alexander to move against Nandakumar. He was arrested under section 66 (A) of the Information Technology (amended) Act,said the police officer.
