HYDERABAD: Three workers were killed and another seriously injured when a multi-storey building collapsed in the busy Monda Market area in Secunderabad Saturday evening. The workers of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation had gone to do some repairs and demolish a portion of the building that was extended illegally. While they were demolishing that portion,the entire building caved in,police said.

Cops chargesheet ex-BJP MLA for murder

PATNA: Araria police filed the chargesheet against former Forbesganj BJP MLA Laxminarain Mehta in connection with the 2007 murder of a rice mill owner Arun Golcha. Thirteen people have been already chargesheeted in the murder case. A supplementary chargesheet against three more,including the MLA,was submitted in Araria court on Friday.

170 shops gutted in Bangalore fire

BANGALORE: More than 170 shops at the 85-year-old heritage Russel Market here,selling goods ranging from fish to flowers,were reduced to ashes following a major fire that broke out early Saturday,police said. There were no casualties,they said,adding they suspected electrical short circuit to be the cause of the fire.

20 CISF personnel injured in clashes

MEDINIPUR: Twenty CISF personnel were injured when they clashed with Eastern Frontier Rifles (EFR) personnel after their protest against alleged misbehaviour with some women at the EFR headquarter at Salua in West Midnapore district,police said on Saturday. The trouble started when EFR personnel allegedly passed lewd comments at some women visiting a fair inside the headquarter on Friday night.

15-yr-old schoolgirl stabbed to death

Dalmiapuram: Two youths on Saturday stabbed a 15-year-old schoolgirl to death while she was at a bus stand,police said. They said the two managed to flee after stabbing the girl in spite of several people being present. The girl was taken to a nearby hospital and from there to Tiruchirappalli hospital where she succumbed,police said.

Man held for battering stepson

JAIPUR: The Jalore police on Saturday arrested one Kailash Jain on Saturday on charges of torturing his three-year-old son.

The child,Sanyam,was admitted to a Jodhpur hospital on Thursday with multiple fractures,burn injuries and scratches after Jain reportedly tortured him for two days. Doctors believe Sanyam suffers from battered baby syndrome similar to two-year-old Falak,who was abused in Delhi recently.

Jalore SP Rahul Bharat said Jain was arrested while trying to flee his village. Jains wife,Nidhi registered a complaint, he said.

Officials said Jain,a private compounder in Vishala,confessed he had tortured his stepson for two days before his wife managed to flee to Jodhpur,where her mother lives. We believe Jain is an alcoholic, a police official said.
