Leopard injures several in Dehradun

A leopard Wednesday injured over a dozen people including schoolchildren and the elderly in Dehradun’s Premnagar locality adjoining the Indian Military Academy. One of the injured is reported to be serious.

According to the residents,the wild cat strayed into the locality early in the morning and attacked people going about their daily chores. It gouged out an eye of 55-year-old Bhagwati Joshi,a resident of Kotra Santoor locality in Premnagar. She was admitted to the Himalayan Medical Institute at Jollygrant and was reported to be serious. The other injured were admitted to the Combined Hospital in Premnagar and Doon hospital in the city.

“I was going out for work on my bicycle when I was attacked. It took me some time to ascertain what had hit me. Luckily the animal had moved ahead,” said Ram Bahadur Thapa,a victim.

The leopard also attacked and injured siblings Priyanshu and Priyanka when they were about to enter their school.

Chief Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank later visited the area.
