A smart pill

A film about Edward Morra (Bradley Cooper),a writer who lives in New York City and has been recently dumped by his girlfriend Lindy (Abbie Cornish) in addition to failing to meet the deadline to turn in his new book, comes across Vernon Gant (Johnny Whitworth),a drug dealer who offers him a sample of a new drug, that endows him with superhuman abilities. A techno-thriller,the film is directed by Neil Burger and is based on the 2001 novel,The Dark Fields by Alan Glynn. Wonder if director Neil Burger is trying to advocate the cause of the pill or discourage people from taking drugs. Whatever be the reason,Limitless’s plot strongly reminds us of a Manhattan thriller, little Daniel Keyes’s story Flowers For Algernon.

* Shia LaBeouf was cast in the film but had to drop out after he badly injured his arm in a car accident. The American actor, who shot to fame with the Even Steven series, was replaced by Bradley Cooper who has also doubled up as the executive producer of the film.

* Post Hangover,Bradley Cooper’s fans surely have a lot of expectations from the star. The actor, who was a breath of fresh air in the comedy, has undoubtedly established himself as a versatible actor from the slick Phil in Hangover to Ben in He’s Not Just Into You.
