Maharashtra Budget: Relief for airlines

Maharashtra Budget has extended the concessional rate of four per cent tax on Aviation Turbine fuel (ATF) sold at various airports in the state other than Mumbai and Pune by one year.

Maharashtra Budget has extended the concessional rate of four per cent tax on Aviation Turbine fuel (ATF) sold at various airports in the state other than Mumbai and Pune by one year.

Presenting his maiden budget in the Legislative assembly,Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar,who holds the Finance ministry,said the time limit for concessional rate of four per cent on ATF which was to expire on March 31 this year,has been extended till March 31,2012.

Pawar said an outlay of Rs 162 crore has been made available for airports at Amravati,Jalgaon,Solapur,Gadchiroli,Karad,Dhule and Rajgurunagar for the purpose.

Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation manage the airports in the hinterland in the state.

The concession extended by the state is of limited use given that bulk of the air traffic is generated from Mumbai airport.

Meanwhile,the budget has made a significant outlay of Rs 69 crore for MIHAN,the proposed cargo hub in Nagpur.
