Sunil Dewangan,35,the chairman of Nuapada panchayat samiti, was killed near Lodhra village Saturday night. He was stabbed in his chest with a sharp weapon, Nuapara SP Sanjay Kaushal said.

The police said Dewangan was called from his home along with 8 others on Saturday. Though others returned to their homes,Dewangan did not. His body was recovered Sunday morning. Five Maoists posters were found at the spot in which the rebels accused Dewangan of working against the interests of the poor and providing information to the police on the Maoist activities in the region.

Dewangan is the third politician in the state to have been murdered by Maoists in the past two months. On Tuesday,Maoists shot dead BJD ward member Krushna Panji.

About 30 armed Maoists including five women rebels called for Krushna from his house late Monday night. The poster was issued by Balangir-Nuapada division committee (CPI Maoists).
