MDI Laboratories India Ltd,a company set up by Germany-based Medizinisch Diagnostiche Institute Berlin,the largest clinical laboratory in Germany,proposes to invest Rs 50 crore over the next two years to set up speciality lab facilities across India. "We are investing Rs 50 crore over the next two years to install world-class automated machines and web-based software in hospital labs across the country," MDI Labs director Devendu Mehta said. "We plan to upgrade around 25 hospital laboratories and set up over 1,000 collection centres and a logistics network to transport samples to these laboratories," Mehta said. The German partner will pick up a stake,while local promoters will also pump money through internal accruals,Mehta added. MDI Laboratories made its maiden India entry by upgrading Nanavati Hospital lab in Mumbai. The Indian lab's doctors and technicians are getting special training in Germany,Mehta said.
