The Central government Monday filed an affidavit before the Delhi High Court giving a clean chit to former Army Chief General V K Singh and four other senior Army officers in a defamation case filed by Lt Gen (retd) Tejinder Singh.
In its compliance report submitted before the court of Justice Sudarshan Kumar Misra,the Centre,in the affidavit filed through Defence Secretary R K Mathur,said the inquiry by the Army Headquarters found no disciplinary action was required against any of the accused officers.
Additional Solicitor General Rajeeve Mehra told Justice S K Misra that the compliance affidavit had been filed on behalf of Defence Minister A K Antony and former defence secretary S K Sharma who was recently appointed CAG.
Tejinder Singh had filed a case alleging that he was defamed by the Army through its press release issued on March 5,which accused him of offering a bribe of Rs 14 crore to the then Army Chief to clear a deal of 600 trucks in the alleged Tatra truck bribery case.
The former Army Chief along with former Vice-Chief of Army Staff S K Singh,Lt Gen B S Thakur,Major Gen S L Narsimhan and Lt Col Hitten have been accused by Tejinder Singh of misusing their official position to defame him.
The defamation case is being heard before a Metropolitan Magistrate at the Patiala House courts. Tejinder Singh had approached the High Court alleging that the authorities had not taken any action against the accused officials.
Recently,the CBI,which is investigating the allegations of bribery against Tejinder Singh,had also said it was likely to file a closure report in the case due to lack of evidence.
