Jharkhand has decided to float a global tender for a new helicopter for use of its functionaries.

“We will buy the chopper within two months,” Deputy Chief Minister Hemant Soren,who heads the civil aviation department,said on Thursday,adding that Rs 50 crore had been set aside for this purpose.

The move comes a day after an AgustaWestland 109 helicopter carrying Chief Minister Arjun Munda crashlanded at Ranchi airport. The state had hired the chopper from Aryan Aviation Private Limited for about Rs 32 lakh a month. Apart from Munda,pilots Manoj Kaushik and B K Singh,Munda’s wife Meera,his security officer M K Singh and BJP MLA Badkunwar Gagarai were injured in the crash. They are being treated at the Apollo Hospital in Ranchi.

“They are recuperating well,” said hospital superintendent P D Sinha,adding that CT scan reports of all patients were found normal.
