The Nanavati-Mehta Commission has adjourned the hearing on the application demanding the summoning of Chief Minister Narendra Modi and others to examine their role in the post-Godhra riots. The Commission directed that the hearing on the application be held on July 10 and 11 after the Advocate General failed to appear before it.

Tehmtan Nanavati, the state Government counsel, had demanded the adjournment last month to enable the Advocate General to represent the case of the state government. The Commission, however, declared that no further adjournments would be granted in the matter.
