Even as the Cabinet Committee on Security continues to sit on the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) plan to set up the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID),the Centre is set to give a six-month extension to its CEO Raghu Raman.
When Raman was hired by the Centre from the Mahindra Security Group,he was told to set up the NATGRID by May 2011.
Ramans 18-month tenure is due to end May 31 and it is learnt that the Centre has decided to extend his tenure by six months.
However,it is still not clear if the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS),which is sitting on the plan to establish NATGRID as well as National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC),will clear the proposal for the two entities anytime soon.
On Thursday,Raman is scheduled to make a power-point presentation to the CCS on how the NATGRID will function. Recently, the MHA informed the CCS that any further delay in establishing NATGRID could have serious repercussions on the countrys internal security. Union Home Secretary G K Pillai also wrote to Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar, seeking the Prime Ministers intervention in the matter.
