The benchmark S&P CNX Nifty extended its gains for the second consecutive day on Tuesday,rising 24 points on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) here due to sustained buying support from investors mainly in realty,oil & gas and IT counters amid firm European stocks.
The 50-issue index resumed lower at 5,509.15 and moved in a range of 5,570.10 and 5,507.80 before finishing at 5,556.15,showing a net gain of 24.10 points,or 0.44 per cent,from its previous close.
European stock markets moved up in the early trade. Key indices in the UK,France and Germany had gained 0.20 per cent to 0.40 per cent.
In Asia,indices in Japan,Taiwan and China were up between 0.12 per cent and 0.67 per cent,while those in Singapore,Indonesia,Hong Kong and South Korea were down between 0.02 per cent and 0.65 per cent.
Top five Nifty gainers were Sun Pharma,which firmed up by 2.53 per cent,Reliance 2.19 per cent,Infosys 1.93 per cent,Jaiprakash Associates 1.87 per cent and Cipla rose 1.78 per cent.
Prominent losers were HUL,which dropped 1.97 per cent,Hero Honda 1.48 per cent,L&T 1.28 per cent,ACC 1.00 per cent and Wipro dropped 1.00 per cent.
Turnover in cash rose to Rs 8,711.76 crore from yesterday’s level of Rs 7,982.43 crore. A total of 4,770.90 lakh shares changed hands in 48,14,730 trades. The market capitalisation was Rs 65,67,281 crore.
