Residents of unauthorised colonies in Delhi will soon be able to legally carry out repair and alterations in their houses after taking permission from a special task force being formed for this purpose.
The STF will be headed by a sub-divisional magistrate and will have members from the Delhi Police,Municipal Corporation of Delhi,Public Works Department (PWD) and Delhi Development Authority (DDA).
The Task Force,at the same time, will also keep a check on those properties where residents are carrying out illegal constructions,PWD minister Raj Kumar Chauhan told the Delhi Assembly today.
There are a total of 1639 unauthorised colonies waiting to get regularised.
“The Lt Governor has already given his approval (for the move) and formal orders will be issued within two days. The Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had called a meeting last week to discuss the matter. In unauthorised colonies, building bye-laws have not been implemented and the SDM will have the right to grant permission to owners for carrying out repair or maintenance work legally,” Chauhan said.
“The orders will be issued soon but it will take some time for it to be implemented properly. After examining the order,if one finds there are any shortcomings then it should be conveyed to us and we will incorporate it in the policy,” said Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
