A Child Development Project Officer of the Jharkhand government was shot dead by unidentified assailants as he was returning to his official residence inside the hospital complex in Pratapur block of Chatra district on Wednesday.

In the FIR,Mohammed Alis wife Wahida Khanam has alleged that her husband was murdered at the behest of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA Janardhan Paswan. My husband was a very honest officer. Paswan had threatened him with dire consequences if he did not sanction money under the state governments Kanyadan Yojna to his men. Ali insisted that since he had not received any application in this regard,he was helpless, alleged Khanam,a Jharkhand High Court lawyer.

However,Paswan claimed he was innocent. I condemn the crime. I want the case to be investigated by the CBI so that the guilty are punished, said the MLA. Chatra SP B B Sharma said they had not yet found any evidence to book the MLA. We have started investigations and carried out search operations at a couple of places. We hope to resolve the case soon, he added.
