The Rajasthan Government on Friday announced the setting up of a three-member committee headed by a former High Court justice to look into the allegations of corruption during the former chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s tenure in the state. Reacting to the committee, the BJP said that the allegations were baseless and the enquiry will absolve them of such charges.

The committee to be headed by retired justice N N Mathur, also includes former chief secretary and retired IAS officer Indrajeet Khanna and retired IPS officer H N Meena. According to Government sources, the committee has to submit its report within six months, however, will be granted an

extension if necessary. The committee will primarily look into corruption involving land acquisitions and allotments.

The committee seems to be a culmination of the Congress’ main poll plank of corruption in the recent Assembly elections. The Congress formed the Government with the support of independent MLAs after a fractured mandate.

Recently, former Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat had alleged corruption against Raje-led BJP government. He has also launched a movement against corruption in the state.

BJP vice-president Arun Chaturvedi termed the allegations as baseless but said that an enquiry should be conducted. “The leader of the Opposition Vasundhara Rajeji has welcomed such an enquiry.

The Government is free to carry out such investigations,” said Chaturvedi. The enquiry would only serve to absolve such charges against the BJP once and for all. We know we have done nothing wrong,he added.
