President Pratibha Patil on Saturday expressed concern over the large number of cases pending at various levels of judiciary and called for timely disposal of cases.

“The large number of cases pending at various levels of our judiciary is an issue of concern. This has a cascading effect on people’s expectations and impacts their perception of the judiciary,” Patil said at the inauguration of a conference on access to justice and socio-economic development programmes in the Northeast. The President said a case not decided on time results in a situation of being “in limbo” for years together.
