Shamir Tandon has recorded a patriotic song Naman hai with Sonu Niigaam for the multi-lingual film Kandahar, which is based on the infamous Kandahar hijack that happened in 1999. The movie stars Amitabh Bachchan and Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, and is being produced by Sunil Nair from Saffron Advisor Productions, directed by Major Ravi and was recently shot in Ooty.
Shamir says,When I was given the opportunity of recording a patriotic song, only one name came to my mind – Sonu Niigaam. He is not only the best singer in the industry, but he has this amazing voice that enables him to hit the highest notes. We all know that Sonu operates from the US these days. When I expressed a desire to record Naman hai to Sonu,he immediately agreed. The song has some very high notes, but Sonu practised for a bit in the studio, and did justice to the touching song and brought tears to the peoples eyes in the studio. Very few can scale octaves without their voice cracking.
Sonu Niigaam admits,It has always been a pleasure working with Shamirji and this time he made me discover a musical facet in me of which I was myself unaware. The process was really fun. Shamir got me to surpass my own expectations.
