With Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stepping into the controversy over the BJPs plan to hoist the national flag at Lal Chowk in Srinagar, pointing out that Republic Day is not an occasion to score political points or promote divisive agendas, the BJP today accused him of siding with those who are opposing unfurling of the national flag and voicing anti-India sentiments.
The main Opposition party said by voicing such insensitive statements, the PM is only emboldening the separatist elements. Not losing a chance to reaffirm its nationalistic plank, the BJP said it was astonished to hear the Prime Minister terming the hoisting of the national flag as a scramble to score political points.
We are taken aback by the stand taken by Prime Minister, virtually siding with those who are opposing hoisting of the national flag and voicing anti-India sentiments. It is not only disappointing but the PM has let down the nation by making such a statement. Instead of supporting a nationalist cause,he has sadly preferred to disapprove of it, said BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy.
