The Delhi Police Thursday admitted that it had no intelligence inputs or prior information about the protest that led to a security breach at the residence of Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde Wednesday afternoon. A probe has already been ordered. DCP (New Delhi) S B S Tyagi said most of the 150 protesters had managed to enter the courtyard of the house.
The agitators had been protesting at the Jantar Mantar for the last one month demanding 27 per cent reservation under OBC category. A policeman deployed at Jantar Mantar informed us that the protest had been called off and the agitators had dispersed. But they took four buses and reached Shindes house, Tyagi said.
Thirteen policemen have been suspended. The police said they had not even informed senior officers. A passerby alerted the PCR. Tyagi said they did not even try to stop the protesters.
A senior police officer said Shinde was in Russia when the incident took place. The protesters belonged to Akhil Bhartiya Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti. They had come to know that Shinde was heading the panel that decides the issue of reservation for Jats, the police officer said.
