The Assam Police constable who killed Assam MLA Bhupen Roy’s wife Jeuti in Bongaigaon on Sunday pumped in five rounds from his service weapon before placing its nozzle below his chin and pressing the trigger. The constable also succumbed to his injuries late on Sunday night.

Bongaigaon SP Nitul Gogoi said while the motive behind the murder was yet to be ascertained,it was a fact that the Sanatan Das — the constable attached to the MLA’s family as a PSO — was the sole culprit.

“There is every reason to conclude that it was Sanatan Das who had used his service weapon to fire upon the MLA’s wife. Five bullets from the carbine pierced through her belly and went out through her back. At least 15 rounds were fired, including one that pierced through the constable’s chin, made a hole in his tongue, passed through his brain ,” the SP said.

SP Gogoi said it was a group of villagers who first reported the incident to the police. “The first caller said it was an accident. But when the traffic sub-inspector reached the spot he found two persons with bullet injuries inside the car. Some villagers later said they had heard gunshots,” the SP said.

AGP legislator Bhupen Roy’s wife Jeuti,42,was found with bullet injuries inside her private car,an i-10,while PSO Das too was found seated with bullet injury in his head.

The incident occurred at around 3 pm on the outskirts of Bongaigaon town.
