Rahul meets UP girl blinded for resisting rape

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi visited AIIMS to meet a 14-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh who was blinded by her assailants after she resisted rape.

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Monday visited AIIMS to meet a 14-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh who was blinded by her assailants after she resisted rape.

Rahul reached the hospital around 10:45 am without any intimation to the AIIMS authorities. He interacted with the girl and her parents and also spoke to her doctors.

The girls brother-in-law said: We did not know Rahulji would be coming. Only her parents were with her when he came. He told her she would get justice.

Dr Y K Gupta,AIIMS spokesperson,said: Rahulspent about half-an-hour here. He asked if she would be able to see again.

Admitted under Dr Y R Sharma,professor of opthalmology,since June 24,she has 80-90 per cent vision in her right eye after a surgery but has been completely blinded in the left eye. The vision in her right eye is 6/9. But there is no perception in her left eye. We are giving her conservative treatment now, said Gupta.

On June 18,Kuldeep (18) and Niranjan Yadav (17) attempted to rape her in Kannauj and stabbed her in both the eyes when she raised an alarm.
