Rajasthan roads: Govt to spend Rs 20K cr

With an eye on Assembly elections in Rajasthan due in 2013,Union road transport minister CP Joshi announced investments to the tune of Rs 20,000 crore on highways in the state during the next two years.

Around Rs 14,000 crore worth of road projects have already been approved for the state. Another Rs 3,000 crore worth of project is in the process of being sanctioned and the rest will come through Engineering Procurement and Contract projects, Joshi said at the foundation stone laying ceremony for four laning of Gomati-Chauraha-Udaipur section of NH-8.

Taking opportunity of the presence of the state chief minister Ashok Gehlot,officials of the ministry pushed for clearance issues. The state government should provide speedy land and forest clearance for timely completion of infrastructure projects, road secretary AK Upadhyay said while addressing the gathering.
