The government is going full throttle to implement its much-touted power sector reforms programme. The Restructured-Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (R-APDRP),an integral part of these reforms has been adequately funded to achieve the intended objectives. Launched in 2008 as a Central sector scheme for improving the urban power distribution sector in the country,the programme focuses on the actual demonstrable performance by the utilities.
ALLOCATIONS & DISBURSEMENTS
Rs 14,854 crorefor various schemes has been sanctioned by the power ministry for 775 out of 1,100 eligible towns in the country under the R-APDRP of which Rs 1,781 crore has been disbursedRs 5,177 crorehas been approved as a loan by the ministry under another component for funding of all eligible 1,401 schemes in 29 states and Union Territories of which an amount ofRs 1,475 crorehas already been disbursed Rs 472 crore has been sanctioned as loan by the power ministry for funding of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) schemes in 18 out of 60 eligible towns under the R-APDRP programme
EVALUATION
The power ministrys efforts have resulted in independent evaluating agencies being appointed for all states,who are in the process of verifying the initial baseline transmission and distribution losses. The government expects that on successful completion of the programme transmission and distribution losses will reduce by at least 30 per cent.
