RBI to withdraw circulation of 25 paise coins

The Reserve Bank of India has chosen to withdraw coins of denomination of 25 paise and below.

In a long called for move,the Reserve Bank of India has chosen to withdraw coins of denomination of 25 paise and below from circulation. But,as a matter of fact even 50 paise coins have become practically redundant.

“We advise that the coins of 25 paise and below will be exchanged at the branches of the specified banks as also the offices of the Reserve Bank of India till the close of business on June 29,2011,” RBI said in a statement.

These coins shall cease to be legal tender thereafter,it said.
