After Dum Maaro Dum,the filmmaker wants to explore a different genre in his future project.

The verdict is out. Even though the trade figures are average,Rohan Sippy’s Dum Maaro Dum is likely to pick up. The film, which is written by Shridhar Raghavan and directed by Sippy,is being heralded as a movie that marks the advent of modern cinema with its three protagonists played by Abhishek Bachchan,Rana Daggubati and Prateik presented as real characters. “So far it has got a good response and the most encouraging part is the word-of-mouth publicity. The younger generation, especially, have liked the way the film has been put together and they are really enjoying Abhishek’s tough cop act,” said a pleased Sippy.

The director conceded that Dum Maaro Dum is doing better in the metros and multiplexes than in single screens. According to him,in Bengaluru the film has done double the business than any other Hindi film has done this year, with equally impressive figures from Andhra Pradesh, where Rana Daggubati belongs. It is going strong in Mumbai and Delhi as well. “We were expecting the film to take off this way. So I can say it’s doing as expected, and if the word-by-mouth publicity continues then hopefully we will sustain it for another five to six weeks,” he said.

Sippy agreed that the conservative audience is not enjoying the movie as much as the youth (which was the target audience anyway),primarily because it does not agree with their sensibilities. Though critics have called Prateik’s high-pitched voice in the film as irksome and are of the opinion that it could have been dubbed. Sippy waves off the criticism as baseless. “That was intentional and something I decided during the film’s conception itself. Prateik is 24 who is playing a 17-year-old and that’s how most growing up boys sound. Rana too has connected in a big way with the audience, and I think we have brought a new talent into the Hindi film industry,” said the director.
