The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a public interest litigation, alleging that the CBI was selectively investigating the Commonwealth Games scam.

Remarking that the probe seems to be going in the right direction,a Bench of Justices R M Lodha and Gyan Sudha Misra said it would certainly intervene at a subsequent stage if the probe is found to be deficient. We have no doubts that CBI will investigate all aspects and facets, the court observed.

Right now the CBI is investigating all aspects, trying to unfold step by step. If we entertain the petition, the process will be stalled. They must have a free hand, the Bench noted.

It,however, cautioned that there should not be any cause for suspicion of selectiveness, however high the person being probed was. The petitioner,Delhi Study Group,an NGO,had submitted that the CBI was conducting the probe against a select few and not investigating the role of high-profile politicians and government officials, including the Delhi Chief Minister, for their alleged involvement in the scam.
