Schools,university to be shut today in J&K

Fearing violent protests over the controversial film Innocence of Muslims,authorities in Kashmir have announced the closure of all government and private educational institutions on Friday.

Fearing violent protests over the controversial film Innocence of Muslims,authorities in Kashmir have announced the closure of all government and private educational institutions on Friday.

The closure has been announced due to apprehensions over law and order situation in the valley,Director of School Education,Muhammad Shafi Rather said. Due to law and order apprehensions,we have ordered closure of all government and private schools on Friday, Rather said.

The valley witnessed protests and complete shutdown over the film on Tuesday. Incidents of stone throwing led to violence at some places and a government vehicle was set ablaze by protestors.

Students of Kashmir university and other institutions had complained on Tuesday they had to risk their lives while passing through areas witnessing protests. The government has announced a holiday a day before to avoid such situations. We have announced a closure to avoid any untoward incident, Rather said. The Chief Minister has appealed to the people to maintain peace.
