Newly-appointed Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said on Thursday that the probe into the serial low-intensity bomb blasts in Pune was still in its early stages and the ministry is not yet sure if the incident can be termed a terror attack.
It does not appear to be an act of terror. However,I am yet to get the details about the investigations, Shinde said referring to the four blasts in his home state of Maharashtra on Wednesday, the day he succeeded P. Chidambaram as Home Minister. We have taken it very seriously but are awaiting a detailed investigation report and I can only comment once the investigations are completed.
Sources said that investigators had also found similarities between the bombs used in Pune and those used in blasts elsewhere in the country but more details were needed to draw any clear links.
We have made substantive progress in various ways. The types of IEDs used also tells a story which has all the ingredients of a terror strike. The use of ball bearing, detonators and nature of explosives also points to certain groups but it is too early to name as investigations are in the early stages, added a senior official.
The only person injured in the blast,Dayanand Patil,a tailor, continues to be questioned. We are yet to question him at length. There are certain clarifications and questions that he needs to answer. We are waiting for him to be discharged from hospital, said Union Home Secretary R K Singh.
A team of the National Investigation Agency headed by an IG from New Delhi and experts from the National Security Guard have joined the investigation with the Maharashtra Police. The Maharashtra ATS will lead the probe and will be assisted by the NIA,officials said.
