Unfunny comedy Producers: Hilary Swank,Molly Mickler Smith,Broderick Johnson,Andrew A. Kosove,Aaron Lubin,Pamela Schein Murphy Director: Luke Greenfield Writer: Jennie Snyder Urman Cast: Kate Hudson,Ginnifer Goodwin,John Krasinski,Colin Egglesfield,Steve Howey A romantic comedy based on Emily Giffins book of the same name, the film is about Rachel,a talented attorney and a loyal friend, who is constantly reminded of her single status by her engaged best friend Darcy. But after one drink too many at her 30th birthday party,Rachel unexpectedly ends up in bed with the guy shes had a crush on since law school,Dex,who just happens to be Darcys fiancé! Complications and potentially explosive romantic revelations are expected. Meanwhile,Ethan, who has been Rachels constant confidante and sometimes conscience, has been harbouring his love for Rachel. Finally all the cards are out on the table. Something Borrowed is a clichéd and predictable film. The film gets a little interesting towards the end of the second half with the revelations. Kate Hudsons performance is effective as Darcy, the lifelong best friend of the heroine,Rachel. Blonde, rich and headstrong, she always gets her way in their relationship. Kate Hudson plays Darcy with the requisite strength for her character, which is dominating. Dex and Rachel, played by Ginnifer Goodwin and Colin Egglesfield, are inoffensive, gentle people, who let others, namely Darcy in the case of Rachel and his father in the case of Dex,make key decisions in their lives. John Krasinski, who plays Ethan,Rachels confidante,is under-utilised as an actor. Luke Greenfields surprisingly uninspired direction makes the film a vapid romantic comedy pulled through by performances. RATING One for performances and one for script and direction.
