Sugar futures down on increased supply

Sugar futures today fell by Rs 6 to Rs 3,586 per quintal as speculators trimmed positions

Sugar futures today fell by Rs 6 to Rs 3,586 per quintal as speculators trimmed positions amid higher supplies in the spot markets.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in October traded lower by Rs 6,or 0.17 per cent,to Rs 3,586 per quintal, with an open interest of 38,480 lots.

The sweetener for delivery in September shed Rs 3,or 0.08 per cent,to Rs 3,543 per quintal.

Marketmen said fall in sugar futures prices was mostly due to adequate stocks in the spot markets following increased supplies but firm demand in spot markets for the festive season capped the losses.
