Seeking to turn the heat on Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Vinod Rai in the wake of revelations that he had overruled Director General of Audit R P Singhs report pegging the losses in the 2G spectrum allocation at Rs 2,645 crore only,a Congress member of the Public Accounts Committee has asked chairman Murli Manohar Joshi to summon the CAG,his Deputy Rekha Gupta and R P Singh.
In his letter to the PAC chairman,Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam stated that the CAG needed to be questioned as to why did he overrule the audit report of R P Singh who had put the losses at Rs 2,645 crore.
It also needs to be asked as to what was the reason the CAG chose to calculate presumptive losses at Rs 1.76 lakh crore and why did the CAG discourage RP Singh, who conducted the audit on 2G,from seeking comments from the Department of Telecommunication that he wanted to include in the final report, said Nirupam.
A discussion on this subject matter must be the sole item on the agenda for the meeting in order to enable the members to comprehend the matter and decide on the future course of action. The purpose is to restore the credibility of the CAG as one of the premium Constitution authorities in the country, Nirupam stated in his letter.
