Superhero

It’s still a good four months to Diwali, when Shah Rukh Khan’s Ra.One releases. A bit too early to release the first look of a movie, but the star thought that it was important to get the audience acquainted with the characters in his superhero film. And who better to start with than the superstar as the super hero. Performing death defying stunts in a cool blue body-suit emitting rays and a completely new hairstyle,SRK is G.One. “G stands for my wife Gauri, and One for my position in the film industry,” said the actor in jest, but quickly added “Seriously speaking,it stands for the good one and he draws his power from light particles.”

The actor said that he named the film after the villain Ra.One because the bad guy in a film is always more interesting. “Amrish Puri’s character Mogambo in Mr India and Gabbar Singh of Sholay are larger-than-life and are the best remembered characters from those films.”

Khan also hinted that some portions of the film could be in 3D,but the final decision is yet to be taken as they are still testing them. “The entire film was shot in 2D. We have singled out a few important scenes that we feel will have an impact in 3D and handed them over to a couple of major studios who are working on them. We are not getting carried away by the technology and only if the said scenes will have an impact in 3D will we convert them,” said the actor frankly.

Making a superhero film is very difficult and he’s also drawn inspiration from Krrish and Drona and would like to show the film to Hrithik and Rakesh Roshan for their inputs. “As of now,I have consulted my son and Anubhav’s son for feedback and both of them have given it a thumbs up,” he said happily.

He was all praise for his staff at Red Chillies and director Anubhav Sinha who have been working on the project ever since its inception five years ago,and all the foreign technicians who have worked on the spectacular VFX and sound of the film. “We have the best stories and directors in India but we need to go one step ahead when it comes to special effects, and that is what,we at Red Chillies are trying to achieve. We hope Ra.One will achieve that,as we have tried to make it at par with Hollywood and if the people appreciate it,our goal will be fulfilled. We want everyone to sit back and enjoy the experience as the journey has just begun,” said SRK.

Khan also pointed out that the film should not be seen solely as a superhero thriller as there is much more to it. “It focusses on the bond between a father and son. So far, almost all films have depicted mother and son bonding, but Ra.One will be the first to reflect on a father-son relationship,” he said.

Reacting to the news about his close friend and producer Karim Morani, who is a co-accused in the 2G spectrum allocation case, the superstar said, “Personal relationships don’t change if one is in trouble. Cineyug has been a part of the industry much before I came. A lot of actors and actresses are friendly with the Moranis, who are good people. The matter is sub-judice and the law will take its own course. We are all law-abiding people,” he said.

When asked whether Cineyug routed funds to Kalaignar TV through Red Chillies,he said that no one had alleged that. “The Enforcement Directorate knows best and will take care of it. Please don’t involve me in it.”

As for Karim being an associate producer of Ra.One,the actor pointed out that it was because Sanjiv Chawla (Juhi Chawla’s brother) fell ill that Karim came in to fill in the place. “And he’s done a great job of it. I hope all this dies down when the film releases,” said SRK.
