Dorothy Parvaz,a journalist working for Doha-based Al Jazeera television network, has been released nearly three weeks after she went missing in the Syrian capital of Damascus. The Al Jazeera network confirmed in a statement that she had been released and was safe and in good health. She was in Damascus to cover the ongoing protests.
Parvaz left Doha for Syria on April 29,but lost contact with her family and her employer. There was a massive online mobilisation calling for the journalists release.
Dorothy joined Al Jazeera in 2010. She graduated from the University of British Columbia, got her postgraduate degree in Arizona, and held journalism fellowships at both Harvard and Cambridge.
