A day after he met BJP chief Rajnath Singh fuelling speculation about a possible tie-up between the two parties,TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu Sunday did not rule out the possibility of returning to the NDA fold. He said the nation was in crisis and his party had always played a positive role whenever such a situation had arisen. To a specific question about whether his party would return to the NDA of which he was the convenor once,Naidu said it was not the time to discuss politics but did compare the achievements of NDA and UPA governments.
The nation is in crisis now. Our state is in disaster. As an economic reformer,I had initiated economic reforms (as chief minister of Andhra Pradesh). At that time,Vajpayee was the Prime Minister. TDP contributed to six-laning of roads. Then there was the telecom sector deregulation. That is our contribution…because of all these things the nations pride went up. Everyone recognises that…. Today, there is frustration. Total economy has collapsed. No growth,no roads,no employment, devaluation (of rupee). The country is in doldrums, he said.
Naidu had held a closed-door meeting with Singh as also CPM general secretary Prakash Karat on Saturday. On Sunday,he met JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav and CPI veteran A B Bardhan. During his meetings,he tried to impress upon the leaders to mount pressure on the UPA government to hold more discussions with the civil society groups and joint action committee leaders from both Telangana and Seemandhra regions over the creation of Telangana.
