Team Anna reapplies under foundation name for ground, gets rate concession

The permission for the protest at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan in August was also sought this way.

After the Bombay High Court refused to grant relief to the India Against Corruption (IAC),the organisation on Friday finalised the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) plot for its three-day protest by reapplying under the name of a registered organisation,to get access to the ground at concessional rates.

The IAC put in the application under the name of Public Cause Research Foundation,a Delhi-based organisation co-founded by Arvind Kejriwal. The permission for the protest at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan in August was also sought this way.

“Soon after the application was submitted, the allotment letter was redrafted and handed over to them. They will be finalising the venue by paying the the security deposit and advance,” said Anil Wankhede, deputy metropolitan commissioner and in-charge of the land cell.

“It’s just the charges that will change, all other terms and conditions remain the same,” he added.

The MMRDA grants premises at concessional rates to social registered organisations, registered trusts and spiritual or religious organisations.

The IAC will now have to pay a daily rent of Rs 6.80 per square metre instead of the earlier Rs 10.80 for a 20,000 square metre area for the event and an additional 10,000 square metre for the parking in the ‘G’ block of BKC,substantially cutting the expense for the event.

As per the new rates, the IAC will have to pay a total of Rs 7.78 lakh and a refundable security deposit of Rs 5.29 lakh,Wankhede said. “Many donors have come forward and we are in the process of making the payment for the ground,” Preeti Sharma Menon,a member of the IAC,said.

The IAC will have to hand over the plot in its original condition to the MMRDA by 6 pm on December 30.

As per MMRDA’s terms, the IAC will have to obtain the necessary permissions from statutory authorities and government bodies such as the BKC police station, chief fire officer and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC),including a temporary permission from the collector,Mumbai Suburban district.

It is also required to park a fire brigade vehicle and ambulance at the site, according to MMRDA’s allotment letter. Keeping in view Anna’s health, the IAC has arranged for a team of doctors from Lilavati Hospital, other than his private doctors.
